Naughtyfish Combine with K.W. Doggett for New Keaykolour Range
14th September, 2011
K.W.Doggett Fine Paper have launched their 2011 Keaykolour promotion. The set of alphabet cards showcase various colours from the range, interesting printing techniques and embellishments and beautifully crafted typography to represent each letter of the alphabet.
The promotion is an adult version of children’s alphabet cards and it was designed to be a keepsake, to inspire and to engage the child in all of us. The cards are held together by a branded rubber band custom made in the USA by Aero Rubber. All of the elements come together to create a paper promotion that is a little different, fun and memorable.
The Keaykolour promotion is designed by AGDA Members Naughtyfish, an independent graphic design studio based in Sydney. Paul Garbett and Danielle de Andrade from Naughtyfish admit the idea for the promo was inspired by playing with their children's alphabet flash cards and other similar pieces of ephemera. “We've always liked them and thought it would be nice to create a more ‘grown-up’ set? The concept allowed us to show a broad range of stock options, as well as an interesting and amazing range of printing techniques. Virco, for instance is one technique we think deserves a revival! The promo also provided us with the opportunity to explore typography and enter into some playful experimentation to craft the letters,” said Mr Garbett.
The promotion uses a variety of stocks, printing processes and embellishments. Colours included Antique Guardsman Red, Jet Black, Pure White and Sombre Grey; Parchment Natural and Recycled Chalk. The colours were chosen to complement the printing techniques. For example, the glossy red screen print contrasts with the inky black qualities of the Antique Jet Black covers. Among the embellishments and printing techniques are laser cutting and etching; magma foil; white foil; screen printing, blind embossing and virco along with Pantone colours and process colour. The covers are 400gsm and each letter is printed on a 250gsm stock.
