Building as a freelance.
11th November, 2009 by Kyle Mac
Ive just finsihed my studies and am really pushing for freelance work.
I have been emailing several of my favorite designers, to try source some advice!
A couple refered me to jackywinter.com to submit work and see where it could possibly lead!
Does anybody have any other similar sites like jacky winter that could pave the path into picking up freelance jobs?
Any reccommended agencies to approach?
Thanks!
Kyle.

One comment I would say on your folio is get rid of the words uni brief and just say it's a project. They stand well on their own.
The way I seem to get more work is just through going the extra mile for my existing customers. Always go beyond the brief. They seem to find me more work than just about any concerted effort that I've made to find new clients. Treat your clients like gold and they'll look after you.
Also if you know other designers in slightly different disciplines (web, retail, packaging), find way to give them jobs you can't handle, and they'll likely as not repay the favour.

I agree, your work is fantastic, especially for someone who has only just finished studies! I'm currently working full-time as a freelance designer and the bulk of my work has come from referrals ASK ASK ASK!
Also, I have received a lot of work from a web design firm and photographer who I built a referral partnership with, they love when I give them work and vice versa.
Good luck Im sure you'll have no trouble at all, your very talented.
